Mayor Xaba pays tribute to Ladysmith Black Mambazo icon

eThekwini Mayor, Cyril Xaba, has paid a heartfelt tribute to Albert Mazibuko, describing the late Ladysmith Black Mambazo legend as a towering figure whose legacy would continue to shape South Africa’s musical heritage.

Mazibuko passed away on Wednesday morning, leaving behind a rich legacy as a member of the internationally acclaimed, multi-Grammy award-winning group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

In a message of condolence to the family, Mayor Xaba said Mazibuko’s contribution to music extended far beyond the stage.

The Mayor noted that Mazibuko had played a pivotal role in elevating the group to global prominence, helping to showcase the rich tradition of isicathamiya music on the world stage.

He said Mazibuko’s remarkable career, which spanned more than five decades, had left an indelible mark on the country’s cultural landscape and would continue to inspire future generations.
