Motorists left shocked as critically injured teenager is found in middle of busy highway
A teenager was left fighting for his life after plunging from the Musgrave Road bridge onto the busy N3 in Durban on Thursday morning.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the incident happened shortly after 9am, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene following multiple calls reporting that a child had fallen from the bridge.
“Several advanced life support paramedic vehicles were dispatched and arrived to find the teenager lying in the centre of the national route,” said Jamieson.
He said paramedics immediately treated and stabilised the teenager at the scene before rushing him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
“The teenager sustained critical injuries in the fall. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, with authorities yet to establish exactly what happened before he went over the bridge,” said Jamieson.
Metro Police attended the scene and will investigate the incident.
The incident caused concern among motorists travelling along one of Durban’s busiest routes, with emergency crews working amid the flow of traffic to reach the critically injured teenager.
Police were contacted for comment; however, no response had been received at the time of going to print.
Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
