Mavericks and Slik X overcame the odds to book their places in the tournament final after a thrilling weekend of knockout cricket.
In the quarter-finals, Scorchers faced Gujarat Warriors and posted a competitive 174, thanks largely to Ravi Reddy’s well-crafted 44. Gujarat Warriors struggled to keep pace and eventually fell 44 runs short.
Mavericks were equally impressive against Saints. After restricting their opponents to just 120, Mavericks chased down the target in only 15 overs to secure a comfortable five-wicket victory.
The highly anticipated clash between Imaani and Slik X lived up to expectations, with momentum swinging repeatedly between the two sides. The difference ultimately came from M. Rizwan, whose explosive 63 guided Slik X to a 26-run win.
The quarter-finals continued to produce surprises as GKR stunned previously unbeaten Titans. Titans entered the match having won seven consecutive games, but Thiroshan Naidoo’s unbeaten 77, which included six towering sixes—three of them in the final over—helped GKR secure victory with just one ball to spare.
In the first semi-final, GKR took on Slik X. Once again, M. Rizwan proved unstoppable, smashing 61 off just 17 deliveries as Slik X amassed 213 in their 20 overs. The target proved beyond GKR, who fell 56 runs short.
The second semi-final saw defending champions Scorchers face Mavericks. Chasing a second consecutive appearance in the final, Scorchers were instead outplayed by a disciplined Mavericks bowling attack that restricted them to just 102. Ayanda Mqadi was the standout performer, claiming remarkable figures of 2 for 3 from his two overs. Scorchers never recovered, and Mavericks raced to victory in just 12 overs to set up a mouth-watering final against Slik X.
The final promises to be a fascinating contest. Mavericks, competing in their maiden season, will face an experienced Slik X side that has found form at exactly the right time.
