
A high speed chase between suspects and security crime-fighters, PT Alarms Tactical Unit, led to the recovery of a vehicle within nine minutes from activation in Umlazi, recently.
According to PT Alarms spokesperson, Dhevan Govindasamy, there was scenario when a vehicle was hijacked in Adams Mission and the tracking alert was shared by the Tracker Connect control room. “PT Alarms head and Tactical unit member, Trishen Govender, tracked and recovered the vehicle in Umlazi Q Section within nine minutes from activation. The suspects spotted the PT Tactical officer in pursuit and increased their speed. A high speed chase ensued. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into the night. Tracker Connect and Umlazi K9 officers were quickly on scene and a search was conducted for the runway suspects but no arrests were made,” said Govindasamy.
On Tuesday, responders from PT Tactical Unit, Tracker Connect and Umlazi K9 unit recovered a stolen vehicle in Umbumbulu. “The gold Toyota Corolla which was stolen in Pietermaritzburg was tracked and recovered in Umbumbulu. The PT Tactical officers also recovered a Toyota Corolla Quest which was taken in a business robbery in the Kingsburgh, Amanzimtoti area, recently. Together with Tracker Connect, PT Tactical Unit recovered the vehicle in the Illovu township area. Unfortunately the suspects had fled prior to the arrival of the members,” he said. Recovery mode continued for PT Alarms Tactical unit and fellow law enforcement units with another vehicle swiftly recovered on Sunday, 20 March 2022. “A white Toyota Corolla which was stolen in the Musgrave area was tracked by the PT Tactical unit members and police. It was later recovered stripped in K section Umlazi by PT Tactical Tracker unit, assisted by Metro Police, Tracker Connect and Umlazi Crime Prevention,” Govindasamy said.
Meanwhile, the recovery success continued with a stolen business bakkie, from Chatsworth, recovered in Umlazi U section by PT Tactical unit assisted by another security company and the private tracking company the business vehicle belonged to. “A patrolling PT Alarms Tactical unit sprang in to action in the early hours of last Saturday for a hijacked vehicle resulting in a recovery with the vehicle stationary on Travancore Drive, in the Merebank Ridge vicinity. PT Tactical Unit was conducting a routine patrol when the alert was received and immediately responded leading to a swift recovery assisted by Metro Police and Netstar,” Govindasamy said. He added that private security personnel and law enforcement officers who are tasked to crackdown on vehicle crime invest incredible effort to recover vehicles and arrest perpetrators at great risk. “Every recovery is a victory and an arrest is an added bonus. Our efforts send a strong message to criminals that crimefighters and law enforcement will show no mercy in the fight against crime. By working together we yield positive results,” said Govindasamy.
