Blood and bullets were the order of the day in Wentworth on Valentine’s Day, when a man was shot under mysterious circumstances and rushed to hospital with a 17-year-old male arrested by Metro Police shortly after the shooting on Percy Johnson Road.
Captain MP Gumede, communications officer for SAPS Wentworth, said that a case of attempted murder is under investigation.
“At about 1.15pm on Wednesday, 14 February, the victim (believed to be about 40 years old) was walking along Percy Johnson Road in Wentworth, when he was approached by two male suspects, one of whom was armed with a firearm. The armed suspect fired several shots at the victim and he fell, sustaining injuries on his upper body. A severely injured victim was transported to hospital for treatment,” said Capt Gumede.
Upon the arrival of SAPS Wentworth detectives and Vispol members, empty cartridges were found at the scene of the crime and were collected as evidence.
“One suspect was immediately arrested by Metro Police officers, who responded swiftly to the complaint. Vispol police officers were at the scene, gathering evidence. The suspect is detained in custody and the attempted murder investigation is ongoing,” added Capt Gumede.
