Wentworth SAPS is investigating an attempted murder case after a man was shot in the head in an alleged gang-related hit, on Major Calvert Street, Wentworth, yesterday morning, Monday 22 April 2024.
Ethekwini District SAPS spokesperson, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said: “It is alleged that on 22 April 2024 at approximately 08:00, two coloured males were walking along Major Calvert Street when they were approached by four (4) coloured males.
One of the suspects took out a firearm from his bag and started shooting at the two victims. One victim was hit in the head and the other was free of injuries.”
“The suspects then jumped into a white vehicle and drove off. The victim was taken to hospital. A case of Attempted Murder was opened and is being investigated by Wentworth SAPS,” added Cpt Rhynes.
Local security company, PT Alarms Tactical unit was on scene together with Wentworth SAPS, Metro Police and other security companies.
Spokesperson for PT Alarms, Dhevan Govindasamy, said: “Locals were traumatized by the shooting as it occurred close to the vicinity of Umbilo Secondary School as learners were proceeding to the school and they had to take cover as gunfire erupted.”
