Sai Naransamy of the Breakwaters Angling Club earned the title of “Mohamed Midas Angler of the Day” scoring 11 points. After a long break due to the lockdown regulations, the affiliates of the Angling Professional League (APL) participated in the Mohamed Midas League fourth round competition at Richgate Park on 21 February.
With many poor catches reported of late during social outings, anglers anticipated a tough day as the elusive fish were hard to entice with a variety of bait and dips. Implementing new Covid protocols, the anglers obliged by complying with the stringent rules introduced to ensure their safety.
Naransamy who raked 11 well-deserved points scooping the R200 prize money, the orange cap and an outright trophy. The honours for the top three overall anglers of the APL was closely contested by Yudveer Naransamy (BAC) heading the table with 36 points, followed by Aniel Boodhoo of Stillwaters AC (32) and Sikander Amod (BAC, 30) with a host of other anglers in contention for the title of Mohamed Midas Angler of the Year title.
After the weigh-in, it was Breakwaters (71) who edged out Dannhauser (53) followed by Stillwaters (32), Glencoe (20) while Challengers failed to register a single point, proving that the conditions were really tough.
The Mohamed Midas League is headed by Breakwaters (40) followed by Dannhauser (34); Stillwaters (22); Challengers (16) and Glencoe (10).
The current title holders include Shahid Osman (heaviest scaled fish, 4.320kg); Preetam Birbal (heaviest non-scaled fish, 4.855kg); Ethan Jansen (kurper rare species, 885g); Talia Veeran (Junior Angler of the Year, 11); Sunitha Richard (Lady Angler of the Year, 21); Ronnie Rampersadh (Senior Angler of the Year, 29) and Yudveer Naransamy (Angler of the Year, 36).
The next fixture of the APL is the AA Coaches Knock Out Eliminator Round One on 7 March at Sandford with the top four clubs progressing to the semi finals.
The top three anglers of the season win tackle vouchers worth R3000, R2000 and R1000 respectively with the compliments of Mohamed Midas and the APL.
