Chatsworth SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier Ruth De Villiers together with her team have been clamping down on known drug hot spots in the policing precinct. Three suspects aged 28, 71 and 55 were arrested during the operations.
The station’s communications officer, Captain Cheryl Pillay said police operations were strategically planned and executed to ensure that the operations were successful.
She said, on 8 June 2022, police arrested a 28-year-old suspect in the Westcliff area after he was found in possession of 197 capsules of heroine and two pieces of rock cocaine. “The accused appeared before the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on 9 June 2022 where he was denied bail then remanded to Westville Prison until his next appearance,” said Cpt Pillay.
She added that on 9 June 2022, police arrested a 71 year suspect after she was found in possession of twenty five pieces of rock cocaine at her home in Montford. “The accused appeared at the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on 10 June,” she said.
In a separate operation, during the early hours of Friday morning, police executed a search warrant after receiving intelligence of known drug activity in the Westcliff area. “A 55-year-old suspect was found in possession of 78 pieces of rock cocaine and 19 mandrax tablets. The accused will appear at the Chatsworth Magistrates Court in due course,” she said.
