A fire tore through a Learning Together Creche in Waterloo on Thursday, 20 August, while 10 children were inside the room. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The children were safely evacuated by a teacher after she noticed that part of the creche had caught alight.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) and eThekwini Fire and Rescue responded to the incident, and firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram said: “The structure sustained extensive damage in the fire. An electrical connection is believed to have caused the blaze, however, this has not been confirmed.”
