“With snake season upon us, along with a massive heat wave, it is important to remember that the house is much cooler than the shaded areas. Snakes can pick up this massive difference and then enter your home, not to eat you, but merely to escape the heat of the day,” said Ladysmith snake removal expert, Fanie Cilliers, who has been working around the clock to remove snakes due to the warmer weather experienced in Ladysmith and surrounding areas recently.
Cilliers said that residents must keep in mind that snakes are cold-blooded and only need to bask in the sun for a short time before their core heats up. Snakes can literally overheat and before this happens, they will enter homes to cool off and that’s when people stumble upon these uninvited slithery guests.
Cilliers said that he had recently removed a beautiful Mozambique Spitting Cobra from a Willemse Street home after the snake spat in the homeowners’ dog’s eye.
“The cats, with the help of a dog, chased the Cobra up a tree. The owner immediately took the dog and locked him up for his safety before calling me.” Cilliers said that, during the removal, he noticed that a cat on the wall was visibly unhappy about the uninvited serpent in his tree.
Cilliers managed to safely remove the Cobra from the tree and said: “Remember that if you have animals, upon that bark they give for a snake, please investigate. And then, while keeping an eye on the snake, try to remove the animals from that area and then notify your local snake removal expert.”
