Ex-Isipingo councillor gunned down in alleged Toti hit

It is a dark day for the residents of Isipingo after news emerged that former Ward 90 councillor, Sunil Brijmohan (47), has been killed in a cold-blooded shooting which occurred in Amanzimtoti, a short while ago.

Amanzimtoti SAPS communications officer, Captain Charlene Van der Spuy said: “It alleged that the deceased was on the roadside at his construction site at Cato Crescent, when two unknown African males walked up to him and shot him twice in the face and once on his right side, fatally wounding him.The suspects then fled on foot. It is alleged that the suspects got into an unknown white vehicle which was parked down the road, and fled the scene. The deceased was identified on the scene by next of kin.”

“A case of murder is being investigated,” added Cpt Van der Spuy.

“The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage,” said Cpt Van der Spuy.

PT Alarms Fire and Security spokesperson, Dhevan Govindasamy, who responded to the scene said: “A report was received of the shooting and PT Alarms Tactical Unit dashed to the scene where other security companies and SAPS were present. It was a brutal killing. We trust that justice will prevail and the perpetrators will be brought to book.

“There was a huge contingent of police, security and CPF members from Amanzimtoti and Isipingo who rushed to the scene to cordon off the area so police investigations can continue.”

An Orient Hills resident who wished to remain anonymous, said the community has been plunged into mourning. “Mr Brijmohan was an exceptional community leader. He strived to enrich the lives of residents and upgrade facilities for the youth. It is devastating to know that his life was snuffed out in such a gruesome manner. As a community we urge police to catch those responsible for Mr Brijmohan’s murder. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this heartbreaking time,” the emotional mother added.
