Thirty-three local vendors were part of the inaugural eThekwini Motor Group’s Movember Exhibition on Friday, 19 November, in Westville.
The aim of the event was to host men for an exclusive “Men’s Day” where males got to do all they want under one roof. Cheron Lucien of eThekwini Motors said over the past years the group has built business relationships with customers and suppliers, however, always understanding the needs of the communities that surround them. “We pride ourselves in community-based programmes to inspire, uplift and encourage everyone to support one another. This new venture was to support men who struggle with mental illness, cancer and other diseases on a daily and with this expo, encourage them to network and grow within the community and do all things that men want,” she added.
Chris da Costa said the initiative started with just hosting a day for men in support of Movember, however, it grew bigger as the team also aligned it to an internal competition where male staff are growing beards in an effort to raise funds for charity. “We are always driven to give back to the community, especially those hit by Covid and the recent unrest. Many of the vendors invited to the expo were affected really badly and we wanted to give them an opportunity to get back up again. Some of them are start-up business of which we invited so that they build relationships, free of charge,” da Costa added.
