Creating a platform for youth and space for abused women

Queensburgh resident, Jennifer Chetty a philanthropist, who has dedicated her life to empowering the community since she was 18-years-old said her vision was to create a space and platform for abused women and unemployed youth. 

Chetty is actively involved in the Chatsworth community and has broken barriers with the work that she has done over the years.

She was born and bred in Chatsworth. She said that it is a man’s obligation to give back to the community that has sowed in him.

She has a distinguished career which spans over years and in many fields and shares a wealth of experience to those around her.

Chetty said: “When I was 19 years old, I began my journey as a police officer. Over the years I accumulated vast experience whilst serving in the South African Police Services as a Captain. I spent 20 years serving in the force. This year marks 11 years since I launched Sinika Uthando Foundation which is a non-profit accredited FET with the Service Seta. I aim to exemplify work ethic to unemployed youth thereby making them employable.”

Sinika Uthando Foundation creates jobs for 200 people a year. The organisation can boast 12 000 employments since its establishment.   

“I worked tirelessly to ensure that the Sinika Uthando Foundation becomes a compliant, recognised and highly sought after employment accelerator, whose primary focus is job creation, skills development and training for unemployed youth and women. Today, together with a dynamic team, we have built a Power House of Hope for many communities fulfilling a dream and vision. I will continue to influence those around me in the community through the centre as well as the private and business sector. Many can attest to the work done by the Sinika Uthando Foundation and its energetic team that drives real social impact programmes with excellent results,” she said.

Chetty is a mother, defender of women’s rights and champion for the ‘One home, one job’ philosophy. She is a constituent registered assessor, facilitator and mentor for the South African Qualifications framework and various Seta’s in the country. 

Apart from Chetty’s daily duties of running the Sinika Uthando Foundation, she is also a motivational speaker, a certified life coach by Blackford University, a registered debt counsellor for the National Credit Regulator, a blogger, CEO of Start up Training and Development Accredited Provider Diadem Consulting. 

She has certainly through philanthropy, engaged herself in public interest issues and built civic and social connections. This has helped to shape families and the local communities by offering her time, commitment,  support and solutions.
