Aurora Hands of Hope (AHOH), a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering underprivileged communities, has announced plans to open a new multi-purpose upliftment centre in Durban. This initiative is part of AHOH’s broader efforts to provide a well-rounded approach to poverty alleviation through skills development and tackling hunger, with future expansion into Cape Town already on the horizon.
The new centre will serve various Durban communities, including Phoenix, KwaMashu, Tongaat, and Fraser. Shubnum Bhopal, Aurora’s founder, explained that the facility will offer several crucial services. It will provide secure storage for essential goods, enabling expanded feeding schemes and grocery hamper distributions. Additionally, the centre will offer sanctuary housing for trauma survivors and deliver accredited skills training in CV writing, English literacy, and computer literacy, equipping individuals with the tools to break the cycle of poverty.
Bhopal shared her vision for the future, stating, “As we grow, our goal is to reach even more communities in need. We’re excited to expand to Cape Town next, where we plan to build a centre to uplift communities in Manenberg, Mitchells Plain, and Lavender Hill.”
