Ward 51 is set to commemorate Mandela Day with a unique approach this year, hosting four distinct programmes at the Shastri Park Community Hall in Phoenix on Thursday, 18 July.

According to Ward 51 Councillor Maggie Johnson, the Shastri Park Library will be distributing hygiene packs specifically for teenage girls, aiming to provide dignity to these learners. Members of the community who wish to contribute are encouraged to drop off sanitary pads at the library.

Councillor Johnson also noted, “As learners will still be on recess, Caneside Library will be teaching arts and crafts to kids from the creche instilling creativity during their formative years. Officials from the different departments will be part of a tree planting ceremony.”
