As Mother’s Day approaches on Sunday, 10 May, we celebrate the women whose love and resilience shape families and communities. For Simone Chiocchetti, mother to five-year-old Brogan and three-year-old Georgia, motherhood has been nothing short of transformative.
Simone said that becoming a mother has completely changed the way she looks at life. She said: “Before my two little ones, my world was much simpler, my focus was just on myself. Now, everything I do has deeper meaning and purpose. My children are my greatest blessings.”

She speaks with warmth about the unconditional love her children give her, even on days when she feels less than perfect. Through them, she has learned patience, understanding and presence. Motherhood has also deepened her appreciation for her own parents, whose sacrifices she now sees with fresh eyes.
For the Durban North mother, the magic lies in witnessing Brogan and Georgia blossom into their own unique selves. She said: “The most magical part is watching them grow into their own little people, full of personality, curiosity, and determination. Seeing them try, fail, and then succeed at something they’ve worked so hard for fills my heart in a way I can’t quite put into words.”
Of course, the journey is not without its challenges. Balancing the roles of mother, wife and working woman while carving out time for herself can be overwhelming. Simone explained: “My days start early and end late, filled with school runs, work deadlines, bath times, bedtime stories, and everything in between. It’s busy, it’s chaotic—but it’s beautifully ours.” She is quick to acknowledge the unwavering support of her husband, who stands beside her through the whirlwind of daily life.
If there is one lesson Simone hopes to instil in Brogan and Georgia, it is kindness and gratitude. She said: “The world may be different from the one I grew up in, but I want them to know they are deeply loved and capable of anything they dream of.”
For Simone, Mother’s Day is not about grand gestures but about cherishing the simple moments. She shared: “It’s a gentle reminder of just how special this journey is. Whether it’s a simple breakfast in bed or a quiet picnic, it means everything. At the end of the day, being their mom is my greatest purpose and my greatest joy.”
