The daughter of a Fairvale Secondary School teacher was killed in a shooting incident outside a restaurant in the Bluff two days after she celebrated her 27th birthday. The victim, 27-year-old Kerry Bloom of Wentworth, sustained entry and exit bullet wounds to her head and sadly succumbed to her injuries upon arrival at hospital.
Principal of Fairvale Secondary School, Mr D Seidle, said that Kerry was an ex-learner of the school and described her as a loving, spontaneous and beautiful young woman. “She matriculated in 2013 and was on the same career path as her mom as she was studying to become a teacher and recently completed her third year of studies. Kerry shares a birthday with her younger brother and they just celebrated their birthdays on Monday, 7 November, two days prior to the traumatic incident. “My heartfelt condolences go to the Bloom family. As the principal of the school that the parent is employed at, together with my staff, we will support Mrs Bloom during this trying time. The Bloom family is extremely close to the Fairvale family and we would like to send heartfelt condolences to them,” Seidle said.
A 27-year-old man who was also in the company of the deceased, Kreesan Subramoney of Merebank, was shot multiple times on his arm, thigh and leg and was transported to King Edward Hospital in a critical but stable condition. Brent Thompson of Bluff and Warren Pillay of Shallcross, who is apparently the boyfriend of the deceased, were uninjured. Brighton Beach SAPS members are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder. Captain Louise Le Roux, communications officer of Brighton Beach SAPS, said: “On Wednesday, at about 7:45pm, three individuals exited a restaurant situated alongside Tara Road, Bluff. While congregating outside the venue, they heard gunshots estimated about five to 10 metres away from the victims. “A 27-year-old female was shot in the head. Sadly she was pronounced deceased upon her arrival at hospital. A man, also 27 years old, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his right arm, right thigh and left leg. He was admitted to hospital for treatment in a serious but stable condition. “It was reported that two suspects fled the scene on foot across the road from the restaurant where they jumped into their getaway vehicle. Multiple 9mm and 7.65mm casings were seized from the scene. The motive for the shooting incident has not yet been established.”
