The Brindhaven Civic Association has started an initiative to install security cameras around the neighbourhood in hopes of deterring would be criminals while effectively monitoring and reducing crime in the area.

With the aid of the first camera, which was sponsored to the community, the civic association held a dinner and a dance at the VJM Kara Hall in Verulam to raise funds to install additional cameras throughout the area.

The event was a sold out affair with one of the highlights being an auction for three people to enjoy a helicopter ride.

By the end of the night, the chairperson of the Brindhaven Civic Association, Vischal Dhudibal stressed the importance of this initiative. He said: “Crime in our community, as well as many other communities around us, is concerning. We need the support of our community to assist in reducing these threats.”

Dhudibal said criminals are becoming more brazen and that petty theft has become too common. “What starts as a petty incident will grow into something big and we do not want to see our community taken over by criminals,” he said.

Dhudibal urged residents to continue supporting the civic association to further better the Brindhaven and Verulam community. The Brindhaven Neighbourhood Watch, which is the  safety division of the Brindhaven Civic Association, is also celebrating three years of existence.

Public relations officer for the association, Cohan Arjoona said the organisation has established itself in the community and is committed to assisting the residents. He said: “The Brindhaven Civic has become a household name in the community. Our aim is to grow and strengthen ties with the residents. We want the best for Brindhaven and want to eradicate crime. The community can rest assured that we have their best interests at heart and will represent them accordingly.”
