Premier opens multi-million rand road upgrade project

Residents of Westville, Sherwood and surrounding areas are all smiles following the completion of the multi-million rand King Cetshwayo Highway/Essex Terrace Interchange Improvement infrastructure project which was officially launched by Premier Sihle Zikalala on Sunday, 3 October.

According to the Transport Department, the project was triggered by the new and future developments in the area which includes the Westwood Shopping Centre, residential developments near the shopping centre, student accommodation and the re-zoning of residential properties to businesses. Westville resident, Feroza Domun, said she is ecstatic to see the completion of the project. “I am happy to see that the traffic lights up and working, also the upgraded roadworks which will ease congestion especially during peak times, morning and afternoon hours and on weekends when we do our shopping. The upgraded roadworks will not damage our vehicles anymore,” said Domun. Premier Zikalala was joined by the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni, as they officially launched the October Transport Month Campaign and also officially opened the R105 million improvement infrastructure project situated in the Westville area. The Premier and MEC Nkonyeni were also joined by the eThekwini Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda, in opening the eagerly-awaited project. The delegation also visited Westwood Mall and were well-received by the mall’s portfolio manager, Nalene Dilraj, who said: “The newly-upgraded roads will create a better experience for our shoppers and we are so excited to welcome you back to your favourite shopping centre,” said Dilraj.
