The SAPS in Tongaat are advising the community to beware of scammers after a surge in recent reports of individuals being defrauded of their hard-earned cash.

SAPS Tongaat spokesperson, Captain Jasanathan Naidoo, said: “In most of these cases, it is clear that greed caused victims to lose their money. How can you deposit money into the account of someone you did not meet? Some victims have even given their OTP numbers to strangers. How can one invest in a deal that says it will give you double your cash in few days? Some people have become too greedy, and I’m speaking to the victims. Do your homework properly before investing.”

Naidoo also advised the elderly not to transfer ownership of their homes to their children while still living in them. He said: “Some children have turned against their parents which have caused the parents to live like prisoners for the rest of their lives. I advise the elderly to avoid this situation.”
