A 49 year-old Ladysmith police warrant officer, who claimed R 6 200 from the state allegedly under false pretences, has been served with a court summons by members of the Durban Serious Corruption Investigation unit.
The officer is to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on charges of fraud. “It is alleged that a police official submitted fraudulent travelling documents to the finance office at Ladysmith Police station, after he travelled to Pretoria to attend court wherein he falsely stated that he was a witness in a case,” said Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo of the Hawks. A case of fraud was reported and the case docket was allocated to the Hawks for further investigation. –
