Arenez Moody

Greenwood Park resident, Arenez Moody, also known by his stage name as SkillzDaRapper, is a man on a mission to inspire the world through his music. Though fairly recent to the Durban music scene, Moody is the co-founder of Keywest Music group, which currently has 10 up-and-coming artistes under its wing. Durban North News invited Moody on the couch to find out more about the man behind the music.

Durban North News (DNN):
In essence, who is Arnez?

Arnez Moody (AM):
I am an up-and-coming musician. I am also a producer, songwriter, Hip-Hop choreographer, Amapiano DJ and a business owner.

DNN: Tell us more about your stage name. What inspired it?
AM: SkillsDaRapper was a name that I came up with while writing my first track. I am a jack-of-all-trades, so I thought why not let it reflect on my stage name.

DNN: How did you get into music?
AM: I got into music because my dad was one of Dr Victor and the Rusta Rebels. I never knew him so much growing up but my mom told me much about him. I figured music was one of the ways that I could be close to him. When I turned 18 I sought him out and met him for the first time. That bond was just there, so I told him that I will be a huge artiste one day, and he told me I that could do it. So, here I am.

DNN: What does music mean to you?
AM: To me it means to tell a story and getting people to hear what you have to say. It helps me calm down after a long day. It really means the world to me.

DNN: Who are some of your biggest inspirations and why?
AM: My biggest inspiration is my mom. She was the best mom any son or child could have and she will always remain as my number-one inspiration in all I do.
