The third annual Men of Valour awards are set to kick off on 10 December at the Oyster Box Hotel in uMhlanga.
Ten recipients who are progressive trailblazers, dynamic leaders, who made a formidable impact as well as served as an inspiration and imbibed qualities to always inspire others and lead by example, will be awarded at a gala dinner. “This year as with last year Covid 19, has been an incredibly challenging one, in terms of the emotional mind-set as well as unprecedented stress pertaining to one’s health and this year again we have ascertained the importance and the predominant imperative aspect of recognising those men that have been constantly achieving during and despite Covid-19. Hence our theme of the awards is titled as Men of Valour I Conquer Awards,” said Valli.
Having lived in four cities on three different continents, Sean Westbrook currently provides regional leadership to four countries for a South African multinational business. “I have lead a number of multinational teams over the years in the territories of South America, North America, Middle East North Africa, Sub Saharan Africa, USA and parts of Europe. My core values are that of Integrity, Innovation and Performance. My beliefs are that with being granted the privilege of leadership at a senior level, one has to lead with inspiration, care and compassion. I am driven to lead my teams to achieve that are above and beyond what they thought was possible and to give them all the praise reward and recognition when success is achieved,” explained Westbrook.
Recipient Dr AV Mahomed has numerous accolades to his name. Dr Mahomed is the vice chairman of the Juma Masjid Trust in Grey Street, the largest mosque in the Southern Hemisphere and the first mosque built in KZN, Vice Chairman of the Islamic Burial Council, Financial Director of the 1860 Heritage Centre in Durby Street, Patron of the Dennis Hurley Centre in association with The Emmanuel Cathedral and a member of the KZN Interfaith Religious Council.
Vedhan Singh is an emerging Pan-African figure, protocol and communication professional, culture expert, gender specialist, human rights advocate and social nationalist noteworthy for his bold and outspoken conviction, dedication and leadership towards issues concerning the education, culture and human rights of minority and marginalised groups. He is a multi-award-winning socio-cultural activist for human rights whose work has spilled over to the Southern Africa Region, Africa and internationally, gaining recognition by the African Union and the United Nations.
Mr L Govender, more commonly known as Vernon in the community has displayed a remarkable passion for Arts and Culture. He resides in a small coastal town in Port Shepstone and currently works for the Department of Health as a Human Resource Practitioner. Govender served as a chairman for the Port Shepstone Hindu Cultural Federation for four years, hosting successful Diwali Festivals to the local community he serves. Govender has also had a major role in the raising of funds for a local temple that is located in lower Albersville and due to his role; one of the oldest Indian temples in Port Shepstone has been renovated. He assisted many organisation in outreach projects and fund raising, including South Coast Hospice, CANSA Association of South Africa, SPCA, Reynard’s Place – A home for the Disabled and many more.
Govender is a young and dedicated man that had incorporated his love and passion for Arts and Culture to provide services that are rendered to the local Indian community. He has brought back many aspects of the Indian culture that have been close to non-existent.
Reality television star, model and brand ambassador Kaelin Govender constantly strives to make a difference. “I’m all about helping others, especially those who can’t help themselves. As much as I have dreams, I have goals and visions. I want to create a safe haven for those who come from broken families, to give love, to emphasize that they are not the problem. My passion is helping people and animals, living a life that’s worthy and always being myself,” said Kaelin.
