Capetonian, Johann van Coller, 32, who was reported missing by his mother, Madelaine de Villers, and sister, Lizaane van Coller, has been found safe and unharmed. Lizaane said that Johann was found in Witsieshoek in the Drakensberg.
Speaking to The Ladysmith Herald, officials said that Johann’s phone battery had died and he was not able to contact anyone. “We are so relieved and thankful to everyone who was involved in assisting us to find Johann.”
Johann was found at the resort and he had completed the 10-day hiking trail which had been part of the solo hike.
The eco-explorer and adventurer left L’Agulhas, which is the most southern part of Africa, on 1 February and plans to finish at the highest tip of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. Concerns were raised after his mother and sister could not get hold of him, having not heard from him during the 10-day hike.
“It was such a relief that he was found. Thank you to everyone who helped,” said Lizaan. It was reported that Johann will just take a few days to catch up before continuing on his trip.
