Thousands of matriculants across South Africa are counting down the days to Tuesday, 13 January, when the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results will be released, marking a pivotal moment that will shape the next chapter of their lives.
The 2025 NSC examinations concluded on 27 November, following months of preparation, revision and high-pressure examinations. The Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, is expected to officially announce the national outcomes on Monday, 12 January, with individual results made available to candidates from 6am on 13 January.
For many matrics, the wait has been filled with a mix of excitement, anxiety and hope. The results will determine access to universities, colleges, learnerships and other post-school pathways, as learners begin exploring options aligned with their career ambitions. For some, it is the gateway to their dream universities, while for others it signals a chance to reassess, improve or chart an alternative route towards success.

Candidates are urged to collect their official statements of results from the schools or examination centres where they wrote, while results will also be accessible online. The Department of Basic Education has cautioned that some results may be delayed due to technical challenges. Learners are further advised to carefully verify that their names and identity numbers are correctly reflected and to report any discrepancies before 20 February.
Those wishing to query their results must do so within 30 days of the release. Provision has also been made for re-marking and re-checking of examination scripts, with applications opening on 13 January and closing on 27 January. Re-marking is charged at R120 per subject, while re-checking costs R30 per subject, with re-mark results expected from 13 March.
In addition, candidates seeking to improve their marks or complete outstanding results may apply for the May/June NSC examinations, which have replaced the former February/March supplementary exams. Applications for the 2026 June examination close on 6 February, offering learners another opportunity to strengthen their academic outcomes.
