Love is in the air as we approach Valentine’s Day, which is vastly known as the holiday of red roses, teddy bears and chocolates, where lovers express their affection with kind gestures, greetings and gifts.

Celebrated annually on 14 February, Valentine’s Day, also known as Saint Valentine’s Day, is awaited by many couples all around the world who are in relationships or married, so they can be openly affectionate in the expression of their love. To show their partner’s love, some buy extravagant gifts while others opt for nice quiet meal at home.

Also looking forward to this lover’s day, is Alicia and Daryl Naik from Tongaat, who have spent the last decade making long lasting memories together. The married couple tied the knot in 2016 and have never looked back since.

The beautiful couple said: “It was definitely love at first sight for us. We knew we were meant to be with each other when we first met. Since the day we met we have not been able to spend a day without each other.”

“We think Valentine’s Day is not mainly about the gifts but more so about showing love and appreciation to your special someone. It’s not about the gifts but about the memories that you make together, while showing each other love and support. We bring out the best in each other in good times and bad. We always push each other to do the best we can, even if it drives us crazy at times we look back and laugh about it,” said the couple.

Alicia said she is looking forward to the gifts, a romantic day and a special night that Daryl planned because the next day is her birthday. While Daryl said he is looking forward to a candle light dinner “with lots of good food and making memories that will last forever”.

On behalf of the Tongaat and Verulam Tabloid and Alicia and Daryl Naik, we wish all our readers a lovely and happy Valentines Day.
