Alisha Lalbeharie, and her K9 bestie Ella would like all those celebrating Diwali to do it safely and to think about the animals when lighting up fireworks

Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, celebrates the triumph of good over evil and this year, Diwali will be celebrated on Thursday, 4 November.

Podiatrist, Alisha Lalbeharie, has been lighting up her home and preparing for the festivities. “Diwali is about being with family members and celebrating the triumph of good over evil and with so many of us who could not really celebrate it last year due to Covid-19, this gives us the time to catch up with family members and close friends, but doing so safely and of course adhering to Covid-19 regulations,” said Lalbeharie.

She also said that she wants people celebrating Diwali with large, loud bangs to be mindful of others, especially those who are animal lovers as she is. “My K9 besties have a hard time with all the big bangs and we have to ensure that our animals are looked after during this time.”

Fireworks can be a danger to animals on all occasions, such as New Year’s Day, and Lalbeharie said that Diwali is actually all about the light of the lamp rather than what huge noise a firework can make. “Be mindful and be careful, celebrate Diwali with love and remember to be cautious as we are still being plagued by the terrible Covid-19 dreaded disease.”

Lalbeharie joins the management and staff of The Ladysmith Herald in wishing everyone a happy and safe Diwali.
