Northcroft’s internationally recognised poet and author, Mervin Francis, has published his third book, Life, Dreams and Challenges. The book was officially launched at Exclusive Books in Ballito on Saturday, 2 August.
Hailing from Phoenix, Francis signed copies of his new book and spoke about his inspiration. “My inspiration is drawn from life itself,” he said. “The ability to wake up and enjoy a beautiful sunrise to the sounds that fills up our daily life. My words are there to be shared globally and inspire people that life is priceless and we should endeavour to live every day to its fullest without any animosity.” He added that publishing this book showcases to the world the amazing talents the small town of Phoenix can produce.

The launch also featured a meet and greet and book signing with other authors, including Ekta Somera and Alta H Haffner. Somera was there to sign copies of her collection, Twenty Two, which is a collection of poetry and prose depicting spiritual growth. “This is a milestone not just for me, but for every poet with dreams,” she said.
Haffner represented American author James N McManus, whose book, Travels, A Poetic Journey, is now also available at the Ballito store.
Far from being a quiet literary gathering, the event proved that poetry is alive and evolving. Live readings brought the words to life and sparked deep conversations with customers of all ages.
The event was a milestone for the poetry community, challenging the idea that poetry is no longer relevant. With three poetry titles being celebrated in-store, the meet and greet served as a reminder that poetry continues to find a place on bookshelves and in readers’ lives.
Copies of all three titles are available at Exclusive Books Ballito Junction. To learn how to publish your poetry, visit sakurabookpublishing.com.
