For Mkumbuzi Ncube, he knows all too well that a man does not need to be flawless to be the perfect dad, but the commitment to his family is a precious responsibility.

The 30-year-old was seen walking with his baby, safely and warmly wrapped in a thick blanket, by a community member who was on his way to work. Thinking that he needed a lift to drop his baby off at a crèche, the community member approached Ncube only to find out that he takes his baby along with him as he sells baked goods to make a living for his family.

Speaking to the Newcastle Express, a very jovial Ncube said that instead of being unemployed, he decided to start a small business to support his family. “My girlfriend and I started a baking business in 2019 as we were both unemployed and desperately needed to find a way to look after our children financially. We bake scones and muffins and I then go out and sell them on the streets of Madadeni,” said Ncube.

He said that he shares a very strong bond with his little boy who is just ten months old. “If I leave him at home he will cry for me all day, so I take him everywhere with me. I think, because we share such a strong bond, we do everything together – even selling cakes. I make sure he is dressed up warm and wrapped in a blanket because the winter morning can be very unkind,” said Ncube.

The couple hopes to one day expand their business and pass it down to their children.
