Hannes Hartman, who is fast becoming a household name as the town’s snake catcher, was recently called out to a home in Pioneer Park.
Upon his arrival, he rescued a Brown House Snake from the terrified owner’s home. “The Brown House Snake, true to its name, frequents human dwellings where it feeds on rodents or lizards. It is completely harmless and relies on muscle power to constrict its prey. It is widespread in South Africa and is very common in suburban gardens,” explained Hartman. This type of non-venomous snake is easily identifiable by its body which is slender and brown in colour with two distinctive pale streaks above the eyes.
