As the world celebrated Mandela Day on 18 July, Blue Security reaffirmed its commitment to caring for communities, especially the most vulnerable in society, by supporting Operation Bobbi Bear, a human rights organisation in Amanzimtoti dedicated to helping sexually abused children from across Durban.
The Bobbi Bear Rescue Centre provides a non-threatening means for child victims to communicate abuse, offering a safe haven and counselling for those seeking refuge. The organisation advocates for these children, assists in prosecuting perpetrators and educates communities about child abuse, which is rife in South Africa.
Committed to helping the vulnerable children, Blue Security employees raised more than R22 000, which was used to provide Operation Bobbi Bear with food, groceries and other necessities that will tide them over and aid them in caring for and rescuing more children.
“Our organisation is driven by our commitment to rescue, protect and uplift the lives of sexually abused children,” said Eureka Olivier, director at Operation Bobbi Bear.
She said that ‘Bobbi Bear’ is a unique teddy bear that serves as a non-threatening means for child victims of sexual abuse and to communicate the nature of their trauma is the core of Operation Bobbi Bear.
“I’m looking at this generous donation. The food is gold, and the necessities. I am in awe and so grateful from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you Blue Security for thinking of almost everything. To every person who contributed, on behalf of the children who we serve, God bless each and every one of you and may God keep you safe in your work.”
Speaking at the handover, Brian Jackson, South Regional Director at Blue Security, said: “Just hearing the stories of the child victims really touches our hearts, especially because our vision is to see active, engaged communities living free from fear; where people can walk freely in the streets and children can play safely outside.”
