Active policing in Phoenix has yielded positive results with Phoenix SAPS Trio Crime Prevention Unit members arresting four suspects while seizing a homemade firearm and dangerous weapons, at the corner of Brailsford and JG Champion Drive, on Saturday.
The communications officer at Phoenix SAPS, Captain Louise Naidoo, said the members of the SAPS Phoenix Trio Crime Prevention Unit received information of a person in possession of a firearm. She said the members proceeded to the said location where a man was said to be in possession of a firearm. “Upon arrival, the members spotted the said male together with three other males. Members then stopped and conducted a search at the corner of Brailsford Avenue and JG Champion Drive. Upon searching all four males, one man was found with a homemade firearm and two live rounds of ammunition,” said Naidoo. She said the other men were all found in possession of knives. “The four suspects could not provide a plausible account as to why they were in the Phoenix area or give any reason as to why they were waiting at the said spot as they were not from the area. All four suspects were placed under arrest and transported to SAPS Phoenix to be charged and detained,” added Naidoo. The arrested suspects face charges of possession of a homemade firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of dangerous weapon. Investigations are ongoing.
