Father’s Day is a time to celebrate the paternal figures whether they be dads, uncles, grandfathers or stepfathers.
This coming Sunday, 20 June will see many families giving thanks to the maternal and paternal figures in their lives. The day is aimed at honouring fatherhood and paternal bonds, as well as the influence of fathers in society. Durban North resident, Jimmy Reynolds, is a father of two boys Edison, 4, and one-year-old Jack Reynolds. Reynolds is not only a father to these two boys, but a father to so many children who visit the Beachway Bike Park in Durban North. The enthusiastic father defines his relationship with his boys as “their springboard that will launch them to greater heights”.
When asked what Father’s Day means to him, Reynolds said, “It’s a brief moment in parenthood to stop, take stock of how awesome it is to be a dad, and then to go full speed ahead again.” Reynolds says the pandemic did not have much effect on them as a family, instead it has been amazing for fatherhood – getting to be at home so much and spending such quality time with his family. “We are so lucky to be able to experience the wonderful thing called life being created right before our eyes, let’s appreciate it as much as possible,” added Reynolds.
