The suspect who was arrested for murder

The family of a Mayville man who was shot dead following an altercation is demanding justice after his brutal killing. Nkosinathi Shinga, 23, who worked as a taxi driver died  on the scene after he was  shot twice in Dunbar Road on  3 August 2019.

Cato Manor SAPS, Detective-Sergeant J. Goss made a breakthrough when he recently arrested a suspect who was on the run after the shooting. Cato Manor SAPS communications officer Captain CA Sibiya said that the suspect was arrested in Ndwendwe where was been hiding. “It is alleged that the suspect and deceased had an argument over a woman, which allegedly angered the suspect who shot Shinga twice on the head as he was walking away following their altercation,” said Sibiya. The victim’s uncle, Njabulo Dlamini, who lived with him said that his death left a “huge void” in the family. “He was my sister’s son. He was a good man who always shared jokes. He was never a fighter. He worked as the taxi driver and girls loved him, some people called him a ladies’ man,” said Dlamini.

He said that as the family they want the suspect to be locked behind bars for life. “That man does not deserve to live in the community. We were told that this is not the first time that he has taken someone’s life. He belongs in prison and the law should take its cause and never let him out because he is a hooligan,” he said. The suspect appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court where his bail was opposed. He is in custody at the Westville Correctional Services. “We are hoping that the suspect will get a harsh sentence due to the heinous crime he committed. His arrest and sentencing should serve as a warning to other perpetrators. Crime does not pay and no matter where you hide, police will always find you and the law will take its course,” said Sibiya.
