DLC leader, Councillor Patrick Pillay, and DLC activist, Patrick Naidoo, inspect DLC posters that were ripped off the street pole

Democratic Liberal Congress (DLC) leader, Councillor Patrick Pillay, has reported the criminal acts where his election posters have been ripped off the street poles throughout the city.

Cllr Pillay said he was inundated with calls from residents informing him about hundreds of posters throughout eThekwini Municipality which have been ripped off the poles by unknown people. “I conducted an inspection of the areas throughout the city and was shocked at the heartless behaviour of certain people who have shown absolute disrespect for the DLC and ripped our posters from the street poles. This act of criminality smacks of political immaturity, is criminal and villainous. I have reported this criminal act to the SAPS,” said Cllr Pillay.

The DLC will be contesting many seats in the upcoming elections on 1 November. “I analysed this vile act as an act of political insecurity and fear by others because of the DLC’s outstanding performance in this election. Communities have already made up their minds and have committed to unite with the DLC for a safe and secure future. Therefore, this act of the poster removal will never erase the party’s name and logo from the minds and hearts of the people,” said Cllr Pillay.

He stated that DLC did not not receive funding from any source and the costs of the election posters were expensive. “I have made many sacrifices and always serve our community with the greatest heart. Therefore, I was really disappointed to see the hard work of our party activists and members being torn apart by certain unscrupulous people with a criminal mind. These posters that were blatantly removed were nowhere to be found, in some instances they were found lying on the streets, ripped at the area where it was tied. We cannot blame the inclement weather for the removal of posters, if this was the case then all of the DLC posters would have been out,” said Cllr Pillay.

Cllr Pillay called upon communities throughout the city to be on the lookout and report any criminal act of the removal of the DLC posters immediately to the SAPS. “The perpetrators, when caught, must face the full might of the law and rot in jail. I am confident that the community will go all out in full force on election day, 1 November, and vote for the DLC on both ballots to win. Let’s show everyone that we are united and will never be divided,” added Cllr Pillay.
