An alleged date with his girlfriend ended in murder when a man was stabbed to death after he was accosted by two men, demanding cool-drinks at Central Park in Phoenix on Saturday afternoon.
Police spokesperson at Phoenix SAPS, Captain L Naidoo, said: “The deceased, a 20-year-old resident from KwaMashu, was found lying on the ground with bloodstained clothing. Constable NB Ngcobo alleged that he was patrolling Longcroft Drive when he was flagged down by a group of people near the Engen Garage in the vicinity of Central Park. A female identified herself as the girlfriend of the deceased and she alleged that she and her boyfriend were having cool-drinks at Central Park when they were approached by two men who asked for cool-drinks as well. The couple allegedly handed over the cool-drinks but the men then demanded that they also hand over their belongings, at knifepoint.
“A struggle ensued and the boyfriend was stabbed twice, once on the upper chest and once on the upper back. The suspects failed to take any belongings and ran away,” said Capt Naidoo. According to Capt Naidoo, a second witness stepped forward who stated that he knows the suspects and will be able to point them out at a later stage.
