Sharne` Dheochand, 18, is no stranger to the world of pageantry and humanitarian efforts, and the young and vibrant beauty, who has taken a hiatus from the local spotlight due to the pandemic, is back and has combined her love of modelling and charity work, and will be hosting a Miss Wonder Woman modelling competition in aid of breast cancer awareness as well as to raise funds for the cause.
The pageant is set to take place on 23 October at the Newcastle Mall. Dheochand has had her own experiences with cancer, having two close family members suffering from the disease, and said that this awareness is very close to her heart.
“I lost my brother to leukaemia in 2007 and my mother was diagnosed with having breast cancer in 2017. I am glad to say that she is completely healed and cancer-free and I know first-hand the challenges that she had to face and that is why I feel it is important to support all cancer survivors and those who are still fighting this battle.”
The Miss Wonder Woman 2021 modelling competition is not just about a pretty face and sassy walk but is rather focused on that of a caring and loving heart. “October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I feel it is a great opportunity to afford young ladies the chance to support women who are fighting this battle as well as showing participants that doing good is just as rewarding,” she said.
Participants can look forward to the chance to showcase their talents and various other highlights. Each category will boast a top three as well as a winner for the best dressed.
“There will also be a Miss Debutante which is up for grabs as a Grand Award to the participant who raises the most funds for the competition. This will then be donated to CANSA. Each winner will also receive a sash, crown, certificate as well as a gift,” explained Dheochand.
The beauty queen is appealing to the community of Newcastle to show their support as this event is for a good cause – to raise funds for breast cancer awareness.
“There will also be a box on the day of the competition where the community is more than welcome to drop off a donation. Every cent will be appreciated. I would like to thank everyone for supporting this endeavour and also to the Newcastle Mall for allowing me to host the competition there,” she said.
If you would like to participate in the pageant or if you would like to contribute with a donation, kindly contact Sharne` Dheochand on 065-313-3707. Entries close on 18 October.
