Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium was transformed into a sea of colour, music and movement on Sunday, 9 August, as Chutney, Bollywood and international sounds took centre stage at the Chutney Fusion Festival 2026.
With people dressed to impress in vibrant colours, traditional-inspired outfits and stylish festival wear, the Women’s Day celebration was every bit as colourful as the music that brought the crowd together. From the first beats to the final performances, dancing, singing and laughter filled the stadium as families and friends came together to celebrate a shared love of music and culture.
At the heart of the celebrations was Chutney Soca star Raymond Ramnarine, who returned to Durban to an enthusiastic reception. Fresh from sold-out performances across Suriname, Canada and the Netherlands, Ramnarine brought his much-loved Chutney hits and Bollywood favourites to the stage, reminding fans why his music has earned him a following around the world.
He also introduced audiences to his latest musical direction with “Yaaram”, an original Bollywood song produced in India.
Joining Ramnarine on the festival stage was Dil E Nadan, alongside an international and local line-up that included Shivam Rajaram from the Netherlands and Trinidadian Chutney Queen Rawytee Ramroop, who made her first South African appearance.
Ramroop, renowned for her popular Chutney hit “Pari Karo”, brought her distinctive sound to the Durban stage, giving local fans the opportunity to experience her music live for the first time.
The line-up also featured Stephen Marcelle, DJ Desiblue, Jani Punjab, Jayendran Kandasamy, Aadhya Academy of Arts and the Dhol Squad, each adding their own flavour to a festival that celebrated the diversity and energy of South Asian and Chutney music.
The atmosphere was unmistakably festive, with the audience embracing the music in true Durban style. Colourful outfits moved to the rhythm, hands went up during familiar songs and the sounds of drums and Chutney beats carried across the stadium.
For many, the festival was more than a concert. It was a celebration of culture, heritage and the simple joy of coming together through music. The combination of Chutney, Bollywood and international performers brought different generations into the same space, with young and old sharing the dance floor and enjoying the performances together.
Presented by Fusion Life, the festival formed part of the Women’s Day celebrations and showcased the universal appeal of music to connect people across borders and generations.
The celebrations continued after the main event with an official public afterparty at Aura Nightclub on Umgeni Road, giving revellers an opportunity to carry the festive spirit into the evening.
With its mix of international stars, local talent, vibrant fashion, dancing and infectious music, Chutney Fusion Festival 2026 gave Durban a Women’s Day celebration that was impossible to miss.
