The firearm and ammunition recovered from the suspects

Verulam SAPS detectives arrested two suspects and recovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition linked to the murder of three people in Hazelmere recently.

Verulam SAPS communications officer, Captain Henry Kisten, said detectives Captain Yaka, Warrant Officers Kelvin Moodley, Anesh Haridhan and Sargent Phiri worked around the clock following leads which led to the arrest. “Three suspects were arrested a day after the victims were found, however, there were still suspects at large. On Wednesday, 17 November, Captain Yaka and his team swooped onto the premises of more suspects and arrested the two. The alleged murder weapon, a 9mm Glock firearm with the serial number filed off, was found hidden on the inside of a portable radio; 17mm live rounds of ammunition were also recovered.”

Capt Kisten said the second suspect was arrested in Amaoti and was in possession of 19 shotgun rounds, 12 9mm rounds and one R5 round of ammunition. “The suspects will be charged for murder and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.” The Station Commander, Brigadier Dludla, praised Captain Yaka and all members involved in the arrest as this case of murder was a very sensitive one. Brigadier Dludla assured the community that he has a team of dedicated detectives who will go out hunting for the suspects and have them put behind bars.
