Some of our bowlers have had a full weekend of bowls when they traveled to Vryheid to play the District Singles play-offs. Sadly, Midlands had not played the final but a decision was made that the final would be played at these District play-offs.
Barbara Baleri and her daughter, Francessca Baleri, played their first game and the winner would be the Midlands Ladies Singles winner. The Midlands Men’s Singles final was also played as the first game of the tournament and was between Theuns Fraser and David Nel, both men from the Nest.
A hearty congratulations to Francessca who beat her mum, Barbara, and Theuns Fraser who beat David Nel. Sadly no bells and whistles for these winners as they still had plenty more games to play to see who would come out as District Singles Champion.
Following these games, the eventual winner for the ladies was Michelle Steele from Newcastle with the runner-up being our one and only, Francessca Baleri. The Men’s District Singles winner was Theuns Fraser from the Nest with the runner-up being Stephen Shaw from Richards Bay. Very well done to everyone. The rest of the weekend saw bowlers from the whole district attend the trials.
Unfortunately, the standard of bowls was not the best for all the bowlers as the greens were not up to standard, but everyone persevered and the selectors made the provisional decision of who would represent KZN Country Bowls in the inter-district final and selection will be made after the Quadrangular. Congratulations to all the bowlers who have been chosen so far.
On Woman’s Day, Klipbank hosted a fun day for anyone who wanted to come try the game. We are very proud to say we had 40 people arrive and had two games of 10 ends. The weather was perfect and everyone had a very enjoyable day, ending off with a bring-and-braai.
Thank you to Klipbank for making the effort but especially to all the people who came out and supported the club. Klipbank will definitely be having more of these days and hope it will get the same response. We also had some kind sponsors who donated prizes for the first three teams. A huge thank you to each and every one for a very successful day.
