Two people were killed and one was left injured after being shot at during a hijacking in Tongaat on Sunday.
KwaZulu-Natal provincial spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said Tongaat SAPS were called to Emona for a shooting complaint and on arrival they were told that the victims who had been shot was rushed to the nearest medical centre for treatment. Cst Ngcobo, said: “Two victims aged between 27 and 28 were declared dead while a the third victim is receiving medical attention. A case of murder, carjacking and attempted murder is being investigated by Tongaat SAPS.”
One of the first responders, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), said they were called out to the scene and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the location provided. RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram, said Reaction Officers found the lifeless body of a 28-year-old man on the side of the road.
“He sustained a single gun shot wound to his head. According to members of the public, the deceased and his two friends were consuming alcohol outside their residence when two suspects approached them and without warning fired a volley of shots in their direction. The deceased fled towards the road when he was shot in the head and collapsed. The other two victims also sustained gun shot wounds and were transported privately to a medical facility prior to the arrival of first responders. A second victim died in hospital. A white VW Polo belonging to the victim was also stolen by the suspects,” said Balram.
Cst Ngcobo said a manhunt is still underway and that no arrests have been made as yet.
