The residents of Norrie Avenue have once again been faced with a major sewage spill that has disrupted their way of life.
Ward 36 Councillor, Shontel de Boer, said that the sewage problem in Norrie Avenue has been an ongoing saga for numerous years.
“It has been a major problem for a while now, even before I got into office. The main issues are roots growing into the system along with illegal stormwater systems. The same residents are affected every time, especially when there are heavy rains,” said Cllr de Boer.
“The stench is unbearable. We see human faeces, rags, pads and lots of toilet paper. This is a huge health risk to all. It also causes traffic problems in the road because one tries not to drive through the waste, the lanes are also narrow due to no maintenance of the leaves and trees alongside the M4 on Norrie,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.
The frustrated resident said that the turn-around time over the years takes longer with days going by before any help is dispatched. “Once it ran from the top of Norrie and it took them over two weeks because they were striking! The main sewer lines need to be replaced but obviously there is no budget for this.”
