Windy Heights Primary in Malukazi, near Amanzimtoti, has partnered up with the world-acclaimed music ensemble, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra for their 3rd annual classical music concert to be held on 18 and 25 August at the school grounds.
One of the main purposes of this event is to promote music as a skill and to teach learners how to play different musical instruments. This year’s event coincides with the celebrations of National Women’s Month and will be used as a platform to highlight the roles that women have played in the liberation struggle in South Africa. The orchestra will be performing several songs alongside the Windy Heights School Choir. Conductors, Lyken Temmingh of the orchestra and Linda Makhathini of the school choir will take turns conducting the ensemble’s songs which have been specially prepared for this momentous occasion.
Windy Heights Primary spokesperson, Linda Makathini, said: “Being a school that promotes music as one of the significant skills that children need to be exposed to, we approached the ensemble’s leaders and sought partnership with them. The partnership between the school and the Orchestra dates back to 2018, with two successful concerts behind them. On our first concert, learners were just spectators. The following year, we chose to include the learners into the ensemble, thus giving them the opportunity to be apart of the very talented Philharmonic Orchestra,” said Makathini. She added that there will be many dignitaries present at this year’s event. “We will welcome the ANC’s member of the National Assembly, Fikile Masiko, and the KZN Department of Education’s Communications Manager, Muzi Mahlambi.” For more information and enquiries, please contact Linda Makathini on 060-428-7991.
