The family of a father of two, Colin Subramoney, who was killed allegedly by a relative in full view of his family at his Uppercroft, Phoenix home, wants justice for his brutal killing.
“I won’t feel better until there is justice for my husband,” said Subramoney’s wife, Roshnee Subramoney. The 53-year-old father was allegedly slammed against a window before he was violently thrown over a flight of concrete stairs, landing against the garage wall. Speaking of her beloved husband, Roshnee Subramoney said: “We celebrated our 30-year wedding anniversary earlier this year and he was planning my 50th surprise birthday party which I later found out about. My husband was a very loving and present husband, father and grandfather. I spent all my life with this man – I will miss everything about him. I don’t know how I will cope without him; he was our breadwinner so life will definitely be hard without him around. I’m hoping that justice takes its course and my husband gets the justice he deserves.”
Speaking to The Phoenix Tabloid, his daughter, Jeanne Subramoney, 26, claimed that her father died on the spot from the severe injuries he sustained from the vicious attack. “My father had visited my grandmother who resides in Palmview earlier that day when he got into a heated argument with his sister. We all returned home but the argument continued via text messages and phone calls between my father and his brother-in-law until the late hours of the night. They threatened to come to our house and we told them not to, because my father was not well,” alleged Jeanne.
“When they got here, they triggered the alarm so we went outside to check on who it was. They came up the stairs and he (brother-in-law) immediately began assaulting my father. He is twice the size of my father and used this to his advantage – he lifted my father up and slammed him against our lounge window which shattered. I began hitting him and begging him to leave my father alone but could not stop him. He picked my father up and viciously threw him against the concrete wall. All his teeth were scattered on the floor,” further alleged an emotional Jeanne. She said they immediately got into their car and drove off. “Paramedics from KZN VIP arrived and declared my father dead on the spot. The paramedics said he suffered haemorrhage (internal bleeding) and broken bones. We never imagined that we would lose our precious father in such a tragic way. We are very traumatised from what we witnessed, we are scared to sleep at night and we sleep with the lights on every single night,” said Subramoney.
Jeanne described her father as a good man who made everyone laugh in his presence. “My father was a people’s person, he made everyone laugh and always put his family first. My dad didn’t have all the money in the world but always made us feel his love and presence in our lives. My four-year-old son adored him to bits and I don’t know how to tell him that he will never see his granddad again. I’m so broken that my loving father is no more, he will be dearly missed by all of us,” she said. Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Naidoo confirmed the incident. “It is alleged that Colin Subramoney was assaulted by a relative who fled the scene after the attack. The victim sustained multiple head injuries to the front and back, a bust lip and nose. Paramedics were called and certified the victim dead on arrival. The suspect, Morgan Govender, 42, was apprehended and appeared at the Verulam Magistrates Court on 14 September. He was granted R3000 bail which he paid and is expected to make a second court appearance on 10 November 2021,” said Captain Naidoo.
