Chatsworth SAPS Task Team arrested a 38-year-old suspect and seized 800 rounds of live ammunition in Welbedacht East on Thursday, 23 June.
Communications officer of Chatsworth SAPS, Captain Cheryl Pillay said that during the late hours of the night, the Chatsworth Police Task Team followed up on information received from an informant of the unlawful possession of ammunition.
“Police immediately proceeded to a property in Welbedacht East where a search was conducted. Police arrested a 38-year-old suspect where police seized 800 rounds of live ammunition,” she said.
The Station Commander of Chatsworth SAPS, Brigadier Ruth De Villiers commended the task team who worked strategically through intelligence driven operations to apprehend criminals who commit serious and violent crimes.
She said: “The efforts of the task team must be commended as police officers who have stayed true to their calling on the day that Africa commends all civil servants annually on 23 June, known as Africa Public Service Day. The informer network is assisting police to collate information, plan and execute operations in the policing precinct. The proliferation of firearms in the precinct remains a concern as these weapons and ammunition can be used in the commission of violent crimes. Chatsworth SAPS appreciates the commitment from the various sectors who have made concerted efforts to assist police in this fight against crime.”
