The Healing Hearts Widow’s Association (HHWA) recently hosted an inspiring Women’s Day event at the Shastripark Hall, drawing approximately 400 women, to honour Women’s Month.
The gathering was graced by officials from various departments, including Community Safety and Liaison, Justice, and Social Development, underscoring the community’s commitment to women’s empowerment.

Khadija Nabi, HHWA chairperson, emphasised the significance of celebrating women’s achievements and contributions. She said while August is dedicated to celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of women from all walks of life, it is also a time to reflect on the incredible strides women have made and to acknowledge the challenges still faced by women in the pursuit of equality and empowerment.
“It is with great humility that I represent an organisation solely dedicated to empowering and supporting widows. The Healing Hearts Widow’s Association understands the unique challenges and hardships that widows face and is committed to providing them with the necessary support to overcome these obstacles. In a society that often overlooks and underestimates the strength and determination of widows, the Healing Hearts Widows Association celebrates the incredible women who have overcome adversity and pursued their dreams regardless of the barriers they may have faced. We recognise them as role models, inspiring others with their determination and perseverance. These are women who have chosen to rise above their circumstances and to create a meaningful life. They are an inspiration to us all,” said Nabi.
The Women’s Day programme offered a platform for women to unite, celebrate their achievements, and reaffirm their commitment to gender equality and empowerment. Nabi noted that widows’ empowerment is gaining momentum, aiming to elevate their status in society.
“It is about how widows are being encouraged, inspired, and celebrated in achieving their ultimate goal of human development. This concept aims to elevate the status of widows in society. At the Healing Hearts Widow’s Association, we are dedicated to empowering and supporting widows in their journey towards healing. We believe that the pain of the past should not dictate the future of widows, but instead, they should focus on moving forward and achieving their full growth and potential,” said Nabi.
With over 300 members and five branches across Phoenix suburbs—Caneside, Shastripark, Sunford, Stanmore, and Whetstone—HHWA is a beacon of hope and support for widows, helping them reclaim their rightful place in society.
“The association serves as a reminder of what is possible when women come together to support and encourage one another. By hosting such events, the Healing Hearts Widow’s Association aims to foster a sense of community and support among widows, raising awareness about the challenges that widows face. It is through collective efforts and collaborations that the support group can create a more inclusive and equitable society for all women,” said Nabi.
