Midgreen Close, Greenbury resident, Anthony James Munien, claims that the water seeping from under his house has become a health hazard, causing mosquitoes to breed.
He claims that he reported the problem to eThekwini Municipality and received a reference number. However, officials from the municipality went to his house and allegedly did nothing about the water seepage. Munien said that as a result of this problem, his water billing has become exorbitant. “I cannot understand why the billing is so exorbitant as only my wife is at home during the day,” said Munien. EThekwini Municipality’s Spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, said the matter will be addressed soon. “We have attended to this job and we took the water samples and are still awaiting the results. Our leak-tracer says he suspects that the leak is from the sewer line. This will be addressed once the results are received,” said Mayisela. Meanwhile, not far way in Trentbridge, Stonebridge, K Ganesh claims that his property does not have a proper stormwater outlet for the stormwater drain. He claims that he’s unable to wash his yard, car, dogs and his fishpond which needs cleaning. He said that an official from eThekwini Municipality who is in charge of stormwater issues for the area came out to his house but she said that she could not do anything about the problem. Mayisela said the relevant department is aware and a team will be sent to investigate whether a stormwater drain is needed.
