The task of spreading good will and cheer to vulnerable families in Chatsworth cannot be done by non-profit organisations alone but can be achieved with the assistance of local businesses and communities.

This is the message being spread by the community-based organisation, Westcliff Community Organisation, who are running feeding schemes and special projects in the area, with the aim of bringing joy and relief to those in need. Their recent project, involving the Easter bunny, brought smiles to a group of children last week.

The children were treated to a prepared meal as well as Easter eggs, cold drinks and party packs. Patsy Govender, chairperson of the organisation, said seeing the joy on the children’s faces brought immense joy. “They were extremely excited and it was a day full of love. On behalf of WCO, we felt like it truly was a great and a successful one for us and the kids. The little ones were very happy to receive the goodies and had pleasant smiles on their faces. I always try my best to reach out to the community and ensure that everyone is taken care of.”

Govender said servicing the community has not been an easy road but with the help of her team, they have managed to continue their work. “It is sometimes challenging which is why I would like to reach out to local businesses and individuals to assist me in my hamper drives. Many have lost their jobs with many companies also closing their doors leaving people with nowhere to turn. They are suffering in silence and exercising our every effort towards assisting them will be highly appreciated,” she said. Govender would like to extend her heartfelt gratitude to all those who have assisted her in her outreach events. To be a part of future initiatives, send a WhatsApp message to 061 317 0361.
