A manhunt is underway to find the suspects accused of killing a Hambanathi resident, who was gunned down in front of witnesses.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) they received calls from residents in the area about the shooting and they quickly responded to the scene. RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram, said upon arrival they found SAPS members in attendance and a body of a man was discovered near a manhole next to the road. “The man was shot four times in the chest. He was declared deceased by paramedics from a private ambulance service. Onlookers confirmed that the deceased was a resident of Hambanathi. The motive for the murder was not immediately established.”
Tongaat SAPS communications officer, Patrick Ngwane, said police officers attended the scene of a shooting where a 30-year-old man was shot in the chest and back by two unknown males. He said paramedics were summoned to the scene and tried to resuscitate the victim but he died on-scene. “Enquiries were conducted and it was established that the deceased was in the company of his two friends and while they were standing and talking on the roadside two unknown males both armed, approached them and without saying a word fired about four shots at the deceased and fled on foot. The deceased sustained two gunshot wounds on his chest and two on his back which he sustained while he attempted to flee the scene.” The body of the deceased was taken to the Phoenix Government Mortuary for a post-mortem. A murder docket was opened and police detectives are investigating the case. Ngwane said no arrests have been made as yet and that the motive for the killing is still unknown.
