Two teenagers, alleged to be the instigators of a possible gang-related altercation, were apprehended outside a school in the Phoenix area on Friday afternoon. During the intervention, police seized two knives from the suspects.

KZN VIP and the South African Police Service (Saps) responded to the scene after receiving a tip-off regarding a potential violent confrontation at the school premises.

KZN VIP spokesperson, Gareth Naidoo said: “My team received a tip-off possible gang related altercation. Upon arrival, KZN VIP officers requested for the scholars to empty the contents of items in their possession. Two knives were retrieved.”

Preliminary reports suggest that the tension stems from a dispute linked to an alleged kidnapping case from the previous day. This incident reportedly caused significant friction among the scholars, with the two apprehended individuals allegedly arriving at the school with the specific intention of continuing the altercation.

Naidoo added: “Saps were contacted and responded to the scene. The two teenagers were removed from the school premises, and the dangerous weapons were confiscated.”

The prompt removal of the individuals and the confiscation of the weapons prevented any further escalation on the school grounds. Officials have noted that further circumstances surrounding the incident cannot be confirmed at this stage as investigations continue.
